There are four types of Class II cabinets:
Type A: Self exhausts approximately 30% air back into the laboratory and re circulates the remainder. Contaminated positive pressure plenums permitted. May be vented, but not considered a B3 version.
There are four types of Class II cabinets:
Type A: Self exhausts approximately 30% air back into the laboratory and re circulates the remainder. Contaminated positive pressure plenums permitted. May be vented, but not considered a B3 version.
Type B1: Exhausts greater than 50% via a remote ventilation system and re circulates the remainder (also known as a 70% exhaust).
Type B2: Exhausts 100% via an external ventilation system (no re circulation)
Type B3: Similar to type A, but via an external ventilation system and contaminated positive pressure plenums must be surrounded by a vacuum.
Class III: The Class III cabinet is a totally enclosed ventilated cabinet of airtight construction. Operations within the Class III cabinet are through attached rubber gloves. When is use, the Class III cabinet is maintained through negative air pressure. Supply air is drawn into the cabinet through HEPA filters. The cabinet exhaust air is filtered by two HEPA filters, installed in series, before discharge outside of the facility. The exhaust fan for the Class III cabinet is generally separate from the exhaust fans of the facility's ventilation system.
Class II: Type A cabinet:
